VANDERHEYDEN BEGINS 185TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
E. Stewart Jones As Honorary Chair of 185th Campaign

Wynantskill, NY Jan.11, 2018 – Karen Carpenter Palumbo, President and CEO of Vanderheyden, announced today the launch of the organization’s 185th Anniversary Celebration. “Our mission to serve this community, its children and families, is the same today as when we were founded in 1833. Over the course of this next year, we will celebrate all those who came before us, and we now imagine more for the future," said Carpenter Palumbo. “Our vision for the future includes opening a Career Training Center for our students, and building a Young Adult Independent Living (YAIL) apartment program to assist youth on their journey as they continue to develop healthy relationships, careers, and to become thriving community citizens.”

“We are honored and thrilled that E. Stewart Jones, a legendary pillar in our community, has accepted the role nas Honorary Chair of the 185th Anniversary Campaign,” said Carpenter Palumbo. A long-time supporter of the organization’s mission, Jones recalls Vanderheyden’s presence in the Troy community. “I am very devoted to Vanderheyden and I have personally witnessed the impact their dedication has made in the lives of children, youth and families to find a better life.” David Fazioli, Senior Vice President at Rose & Kiernan and Carla Chiaro, President at the Renaissance Corporation of Albany, who are both long-serving members of Vanderheyden’s Board of Directors, have been named as co-chairs of the 185th Anniversary Committee.

Vanderheyden is currently searching for Alumni and descendants with ties to the organization’s long history to relate their inspirational stories of healing and growth. We would like to capture the stories for a book. Their inspirational stories will be the foundation of the year-long celebration, culminating in a 185th Anniversary Event in October 2018. If you would like to learn more about joining our 1833 Society to honor the year our organization was formed or tell us a story, please reach out to us at (518) 518-874-4964 or email 185anniversary@vanderheyden.org.

Vanderheyden began as the Troy Orphan Asylum in 1833. In 2018 Vanderheyden will celebrate its 185 anniversary. Today, our facilities provide a safe haven for youth, adults and families who have experienced family disruption, trauma, abuse, emotional difficulty, developmental disability and learning problems. The Richard A. Desrochers Educational Center at Vanderheyden is a Regents accredited 7-12 grade program that provides education to individuals who are at risk of not succeeding at school, and those in need of a special education. Vanderheyden is committed to a family focused, trauma informed, and community based system of care. For more information visit www.vanderheyden.org and follow us on Facebook.
