WNYT's Elaine Houston Guest Speaker at Vanderheyden Graduation Ceremony;
Southwest Airlines of Albany Hosting BBQ Following Graduation
Wynantskill, NY - NewsChannel 13's Elaine Houston will be the Guest Speaker at Vanderheyden's Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 24th, 2016.
The Graduation Ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Richard A. Desrochers Educational Center on our Main Campus in Wynantskill.
Elaine Houston is the anchor of NewsChannel 13 Live at 5:30, and is both a news and education reporter for WNYT-TV. The St Louis native joined the Capital Region station in 1990.
Houston has received numerous education awards in our community, and her many humanitarian efforts have been recognized on both a state and national level.
After graduating from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a B.S. in Journalism, Houston earned a Master's Degree from the State University of New York's Empire State College. The College of St. Rose also bestowed an honorary doctorate degree upon Houston for her work in the Capital Region community, as well as her stories on teachers and her commitment to education.
“I am both delighted and thrilled that Ms. Houston is available to address our students who have worked so hard to achieve this successful milestone. I am also very pleased that Southwest Airlines of Albany will once again host a BBQ for our graduates following the ceremony. Graduation is always a proud day at Vanderheyden and the support of the community is invaluable to our agency,” stated Karen Carpenter Palumbo, President and CEO of Vanderheyden.
Vanderheyden began as the Troy Orphan Asylum in 1833. Today,our facilities provide a safe haven for youth, adults and families who have experienced family disruption, trauma, abuse, emotional difficulty, developmental disability and learning problems. The Richard A. Desrochers Educational Center at Vanderheyden is a Regents accredited 7-12 grade program that provides education to individuals who are at risk of not succeeding at school and those in need of a special education.
